{"id":8053,"date":"2023-05-15T12:06:29","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T11:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/walloftraders.com\/blog\/?p=8053"},"modified":"2023-05-15T14:17:02","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T13:17:02","slug":"ethereum-a-second-outage-what-should-we-deduce-from-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walloftraders.com\/blog\/en\/ethereum-a-second-outage-what-should-we-deduce-from-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethereum: a second outage, what should we deduce from it?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Friday evening, the Ethereum blockchain experienced a second &#8220;<strong>inactivity leak<\/strong>&#8221; before returning to normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before continuing, it is important to highlight two points that may be misunderstood by some communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Ethereum blockchain has not stopped<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>This has nothing to do with a centralization problem. In fact, from the user&#8217;s point of view, these incidents went completely unnoticed and the transaction continued, even though it was actually important to fix the problems that had arisen.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As more and more details emerge, the problem seems to lie with the software used to run the consensus layer. Prior to the fix, validators received certificates from epochs prior to the current epoch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Ethereum, one epoch equals <strong>32 blocks<\/strong>. These certificates therefore interfere with the work of validators that generate certificates for the current era, forcing clients to calculate the validity of multiple certificates simultaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the long term, this can overload the <strong>Validator <\/strong>client cache, for example if you have several programs open on your computer at the same time and it slows down when they all load.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, somehow, the changes to <strong>Prysm <\/strong>and <strong>Teku clients <\/strong>add a filter for <strong>validators <\/strong>to ignore superfluous certificates and focus on those that are really important for <strong>network security<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, network operators are advised not to settle for minimal technical requirements for running validator nodes to withstand sudden <strong>spikes in activity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will therefore observe whether this modification is sufficient to ensure the stability of the client of the consensus layer. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which collects income and certain taxes in the United States, has filed an impressive <strong>45 claims<\/strong> for damages against <strong>FTX <\/strong>and its affiliates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All applications were submitted between <strong>April 27 <\/strong>and <strong>April 28<\/strong>, including Blockfolio, North Wireless Dimension, West Realm Shires Service, FTX Trading and certain FTX.US affiliates. It covers various companies that were once under the umbrella of Sam Bankman Freed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This meant that the amount of damages claims received by each company varied widely. In fact, affected investors were able to trade until <strong>April 14 <\/strong>and withdraw their funds until April 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter previously announcing that Bittrex, Inc. would cease all operations in the United States effective April 30, we have now decided to [file for bankruptcy] in federal court in the State of Delaware.\u201d does not affect <strong>Bittrex Global<\/strong>. will continue to operate as normal for customers outside of the United States. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if a US-registered customer does not withdraw virtual currency within the prescribed time, all funds must be recovered. With Ethereum, you don&#8217;t even need to own 32 ETH to receive returns, which makes the solution much more accessible to retail investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users who fund through Lido will receive daily rewards in the form of derivative tokens tied <strong>1:1<\/strong> to the underlying asset.
